Training Logistics

The training sessions are held at the Country Springs Resort & Convention Center located just off Interstate 94 in Pewaukee, WI. The Hotel is about 20 miles west of downtown Milwaukee.

The session is held over a two day period and runs from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on February 9 and again from 8:30 AM to 4 PM on February 10.

Continuing Education

This 2-day program earns 13.5 continuing education credits for psychologists. For attorneys, 15 Wisconsin continuing legal education credits will be applied for, including 1.5 ethics and professional responsibility credits.

Fees

Registration Fee for CFLCW Members is $265. The fee for non-members is $395. This fee includes all materials as well as continental breakfast and lunch on both days.

Third-year Law and Graduate Students may attend at a special rate of $150 (includes a reduced membership fee for the 1st year)

Members of the Wisconsin Association of Mediators members may attend at the member rate.

Non-members who join CFLCW with registration pay the member rate.

The Building blocks Program

The Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin released its acclaimed interdisciplinary basic training “The Building Blocks of Collaborative Family Law” in 2004. The 2011/2012 updates are based on the training materials of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and meet the IACP 12 hour Minimum Standards for a Collaborative Basic Training. This 2-day training offers an understanding of how collaborative practice works and how to expand your practice.

During this intensive training, you will learn
•             The basic steps in a collaborative divorce
•             The role of each professional team member
•             Skills to allow you to conduct effective client interviews
•             Ways to avoid an impasse
•             Ethical considerations affecting collaborative practice
•             The ways in which teamwork enhances the collaborative process

A Basic Training in Collaborative Practice

8:00 AM – 8:30 AM - Registration Check-In & Continental Breakfast         

8:30 AM to 10:15 AM -   Plenary Session This session covers a history and overview of the collaborative practice, including procedures, key issues, and the divorce choice spectrum. Included is a systematic walk through of a basic case, illustrating the “nuts and bolts”, timelines and pacing, and team solutions to problems.  Also included are video vignettes and moderated discussions of initial consultations across the disciplines, team communications, and team and party meetings in typical formats, among them the lawyer and coach four-way meeting as well as child specialist feedback sessions.

10:15 AM to 10:30 - Break            

10:30 AM to 12 Noon - A look at the collaborative process with the “K Family” video.

12:00 Noon to 12:30 PM - Techniques for Talking About the Law

12:30 PM to 1:30 PM – Lunch provided

1:30 PM to 4:00 PM - Breakout Sessions by Discipline (includes a 15 minutes break). Discussion of the basic professional roles, procedures, key issues, role differentiations, and beginning case analysis.

4:00 PM to 4:30 PM - Wrap-up

An introduction to the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Ethical Standards for Collaborative Practitioners. Includes a facilitated discussion, featuring video vignettes, of issues of competence, conflicts, confidentiality, and elements for collaboration and effective advocacy between and among the disciplines. Completes requirement for 1 EPR for Wisconsin Attorneys.

10:15 AM - 10:45 AM - Domestic Violence Screening

10:45 AM – Noon - Cross-Discipline Breakout Sessions

Noon - 1:00 PM - Lunch (provided)

1:00 PM - 2:15 PM - The Initial Interview
A series of role-plays and moderated discussions that teach and illustrate techniques for all three disciplines in the first client interview. Includes a discussion of process issues, identifying clients suitable for the process, eliciting salient facts, and addressing client concerns about the model.

2:15 PM - 3:30 PM - Stress in the Collaborative Process
A moderated discussion of videos illustrating techniques and tools for working with clients in difficult emotional contexts.

3:30 PM - 4:00 PM - Training Wrap-up
